I’ve blogged about the WP-Ecommerce plugin from instinct.co.nz before, and how seriously impressed I was with the plugin itself and how seriously UNIMPRESSED I was with the documentation!

WP-Ecommerce Bible

Usually, the internet is full of those that deplore things, and say how bad they are, but rarely do those people actually do anything about it.

I approached Shayne at S-Tastic Designs (he is the one who is just about the most knowledgeable guy on the planet about this plugin with the exception perhaps of the authors themselves), and asked him why the documentation was so poor.

The response was remarkably refreshing.  He explained that the Instinct team were a small busy team who really wanted the plugin to be as good as it could be - but struggled to find the time away from earning a living to document their plugin.  Then he went on to say that he would be happy to contribute his knowledge, but that no-one had stepped up to the plate to actually write the documentation.

Basically, if someone could write it, Instinct and I would happily contribute our knowledge and support. I’d even write a lot of it myself.

Well, I couldn’t bellyache about it and then not do anything when I had been invited to do something about it could I?

So the WP-Ecommerce Bible was born.

Around 175 hours of writing and endless chat time later, a full and complete documentation of the plugin was born.  It is even current up to the most recent version of the instinct.co.nz WP-Ecommerce plugin (Ver: 3.6.7) as Instinct very kindly supplied a pre-release verison of the plugin via Shayne for testing and documenting.

At a cover price of just $37 (most of which is eaten up in trying to protect the PDF - damn the internet thieves!) this represents less than Shayne’s single hourly rate!
