It is my absolute pleasure to be able to join in with the general celebrations regarding the safe return of little Shannon Matthews from Dewsbury.
During door to door inquiries two Police officers were suspicious when one of the doors they knocked on remained unanswered despite both officers feeling sure that someone was inside. They called for assistance and broke down the door, finding Shannon with a 39 year old man (now in custody) who is believed to be ‘on the fringes’ of the Matthews family.
It was not a simple matter to find her though, as the man had secreted her in the drawer of a divan bed. Although Police reported that Shannon appeared quite calm the ordeal is likely to have caused the 9 year great distress, and she will be receiving specialist counselling to help her come to terms with her abduction.
There has been no news of what may have occurred during the time that she has been missing, and the Police continue to question the man who is believed to be related to the girls stepfather.
In a bizarre piece of commentary the parents of missing 4 year old Madeleine have been quoted as saying that they are ‘delighted’ that Shannon has been safely returned to her family.
It is likely that Shannon’s family will be able to continue their celebrations without the need for other media hungry people to get involved.
