The guy in this picture is Mohammed Hamid. He has been convicted of recruiting for Islamic extremists, and he is going to be sentenced soon.
He stood in court accused of taking young ‘vulnerable’ Muslims to training camps in the Lake District and the New Forest and preparing them to fight. It is believed that the failed London Suicide Bombers were amongst his trainees.
Apparently he is a “serious and determined terrorist” according to one Police source. We should be afraid - very afraid.
Thing is. Mohammed doesn’t bother me one bit. Oh, sure it is a bit of a worry that we have a recruiter in our midst for a regime that we are all being taught to despise and fear, but I fear my own Government and Military forces from time to time and they are allowed to have recruitment offices.
I am extremely concerned that our Government loses personal data left right and centre and yet wants ID cards and a DNA database - and yet they are allowed to appear on television to promote exactly those things.
In my humble opinion and experience, when you try to censor a group or belief it becomes stronger in those who believe and demonised by those who do not. Clearly I do not want my country living under Shariah law, but then I am fairly certain that there are Muslims who would not want to live under Shariah law given the option. I am not afraid of those who want to try and move us in that direction. I want our way of life to be challenged by other influences - that is how the UK has become what it is - for ill or good.
What I don’t want is groups to be marginalised because a Government doesn’t like them. I don’t want to hide behind my
sofa from the Islamic Bogeyman. I want to look the Mullah in the face and ask him to convince me that seeing a woman’s ankle will inflame the masses and result in scenes last saw in Babel.
I want the AK-47 bearded Afgani to sit down and drink coffee with me and explain why their civil war is actually none of our concern and none of our sons should have to die because of it.
I want the ex-IRA enforcer to convince me that his fight for independence is as glorious as that other well known terrorist enforcer Nelson Mandella.
I do not fear the extremist - I fear a Government that WANTS me to fear the extremist.
Why, my dear Mr Brown - what do you have to hide?
I have run out of coffee - fancy buying me one?
