Managing how a website reacts (and so is tailored) to the various visitor sources that we have is a useful wayInternet Explorer Logo of interacting with the people who make the effort to come and visit you. If you arrived at this page using IE you will have noticed that I offer to let you download FireFox free of charge. There is a small piece of code that I have added to my blog that allows the browser to be recognised - and if it is IE then the message is displayed. If it is any other browser the message is not displayed.

In the same way I wanted to greet visitors from DIGG and Stumbleupon with their own particular message.

There are a couple of reasons why I wanted to do this. The primary reason is that I hope that it will encourage a DIGG or thumbsup from the respective readers if they like the post. The other reason is that I think it is just good manners!

Whilst trying to work out the best way of identifying users from these websites I found this excellent little plugin from PreBlogging. This gave me a super easy way of achieving what I wanted to do, without having to go through the painful process of coding it myself.

Once you have uploaded and activated the plugin you simply go settings > increase sociability and you are presented with the options.

Increase Sociability Plugin Settings

The settings are pretty easy to understand and manage to be honest.

First up is your message to DIGG visitors - and you can even use HTML (and no doubt other code) here.

Then your message for StumbleUpon visitors (same format as DIGG)

Decide if you want the message at the top/bottom/or both top and bottom of the post.

Decide if you want an author link in the footer of your page.

And that - is - it!

Simple.

Effective.

Highly recommended for those who think it is useful. Close to perfect.

Excellent score!

I have run out of coffee - fancy buying me one?
