DailyBlogTips released the Homepage Excerpts plugin way back in 2007, and have made sure that is stays compatible with Wordpress right the way up to the current (at the time of writing) 2.5 version.

Essentially the idea of this plugin is simple. It allows the blogger control over the way that information is presented on the homepage (and subsequent pages).

I make no apologies for nicking DailyBlogTips images to explain this below!

Homepage Excerpts Examples

Basically, this means that you can present your blog information in the way that suits you, rather than the default options offered by the Wordpress setup.

settings > homepage excerpts gives you access to the settings, which it has to be said are extremely simple:

The first option decides how many of your homepage posts will be shown in full (the rest will show an excerpt).

The second option gives you the ability to use a custom excerpt for your articles (which you would then create when you are writing your post) which is a useful way of summarising the article if it does not obviously do that in the first paragraph.

The final option allows you to decide how many words from the start of the article are used to create the excerpt (assuming you are not using a custom one.

This gives a really simple way to manage the appearance of your site, without having to resort to code-crunching, and it also allows you to change it quickly should you wish to in the future.
Effective, and very easy to manage plugin for anyone who wants to achieve this.

Eight out of ten is a great score!

I have run out of coffee - fancy buying me one?
